House Painting

House painting, inside and out, with the washing, scraping and patching done first

Interior and exterior paint for homes in Stockton, Sacramento and Tracy, run as part of the same schedule as the rest of the job.

Chapter 01

Paint fails where the prep was skipped

A coat of paint is only as good as the surface under it. Dirt, chalky old paint, peeling edges and open cracks all push through new color within a season or two. House Painting that lasts starts with the dull work: washing the surface, scraping what is loose, patching holes and cracks, and caulking the joints.

Outside, the Central Valley sun and the dry summers are hard on paint, and exposed wood trim and fascia take the worst of it. Inside, the prep is smaller but just as real: nail holes, drywall seams and the marks left by the last project.

The old Fischer pitch is to add a dash of color to a remodel or brighten a living space without breaking the bank. The way to do that is to put the effort into the part nobody sees.

Where painting sits on the schedule

Fischer is a general contractor, so painting is one of the last lines on a longer schedule, and it only works if the trades above it finish clean. Carpenters set trim and repair rotted wood first. Window companies finish their flashing and caulk. Then the prep crew and the painters move through.

On a remodel, painting follows drywall, trim and cabinets and comes before the final fixtures and the last flooring work, so nothing gets spattered. On an exterior job, it follows any siding or carpentry repair. The sequence is worked out with you at the consultation.

You approve the colors before the first can is opened, and if the plan changes you hear about it first and give your complete approval before we go ahead. We paint across Stockton, Sacramento and Tracy, and a call to (209) 205-5901 starts the conversation.

Chapter 03

Primer, coats, cleanup and touch-ups

Primer goes on bare wood, patched spots and any surface where color is changing a lot. Then come the finish coats, interior or exterior, with edges cut in clean around trim, windows and doors. Different rooms and different surfaces call for different finishes, and we talk those through with you rather than picking for you.

Cleanup is part of the job: tape pulled, drop cloths gone, hardware back on. At the walkthrough we look at the finished work in daylight and note touch-ups, and we close those out before the job is called done.

Paint goes last

Painters start when everyone else is clear of the walls.

Here is how a typical painting job lines up on the board. Your own timeline is worked out with you at the consultation.

Painting often follows other work. See siding for the outside of the house, or framing and carpentry for the trim and wood repairs that come first.
